Chile tax residence calculator

Since the 2020 reform, Chile treats you as resident if you stay in the country more than 183 days, continuously or not, within any twelve-month period. The old rule required six consecutive months in one year or in two consecutive years; today it is a rolling window that adds up separate days.

Domicile is a different and broader concept: the tax service may consider a person domiciled with fewer days if they show intent to stay, for example with family, a home or main business in Chile. The calculator covers only the day count.

Frequently asked questions

Do arrival and departure days count?
The calculator counts any day with presence in Chile, including arrival and departure days, which is the prudent criterion.
From when does a new resident pay tax on worldwide income?
New foreign residents are taxed only on Chilean-source income for the first three years, a term that can be extended; after that, on worldwide income. It is a regime worth planning with an adviser.
