Colombia tax residence calculator (183 days in any 365-day period)
Colombia does not count days per calendar year but over a rolling window: you are resident if you stay in the country for more than 183 days, continuous or not, within any period of 365 consecutive days. The rule states that arrival and departure days are included.
The rolling window changes the usual intuition. Someone who spent September to December in Colombia and returns in January can cross the threshold in February, even though only a few weeks of the new year have passed. The calculator reviews every recent window and shows the most demanding one.
Colombian nationals are also subject to criteria linked to family, income and assets in the country, which this tool does not evaluate.

Frequently asked questions
- Why can the result be worse than the count for the current year?
- Because the rule looks at any 365-day period, not the calendar year. If a window that ended two months ago reached 190 days, residence was already triggered for the tax year in which the threshold was met, even if today's count is lower.
- Does the rule say 183 days or more than 183?
- More than 183 days. The calculator sets the threshold at 183 so the warning arrives one day early, which is what an adviser prefers.
- What happens if the threshold is crossed mid-year?
- Residence is deemed established for the tax year in which the 183 days are completed, which brings worldwide income into the Colombian return for that period. Plan trips ahead.
